The Parliament of South Australia enacts as follows: Part 1—Preliminary 1—Short title This Act may be cited as the Public Finance and Audit (Fossil Fuel Sponsorships) Amendment Act 2024. 2—Commencement This Act comes into operation on the day on which it is assented to by, or on behalf of, the Crown.
Part 2—Amendment of Public Finance and Audit Act 1987 3—Insertion of Part 3A After Part 3 insert: Part 3A—Fossil Fuel Sponsorships 39A—Interpretation In this Part— fossil fuel means— (a) coal; and (b) crude oil; and (c) natural gas; and (d) any other fuel brought within the ambit of this definition by the regulations; prescribed fossil fuel entity means an entity which— (a) produces; or (b) explores for; or (c) mines; or (d) extracts; or (e) refines, fossil fuels and includes an entity that controls or is controlled by a prescribed fossil fuel entity. 39B—Money not to be applied in association with fossil fuel sponsorship (1) Money must not be issued or applied from a public account for the purposes of providing funding to an event if a prescribed fossil fuel entity or a fossil fuel is to be promoted (whether as a naming rights sponsor or otherwise) at or by the event, or by or on behalf of the event organisers, under a sponsorship agreement (however described). (2) This section applies despite any other provision of this Act, or any other Act or law.
