The Parliament of South Australia enacts as follows: Part 1—Preliminary 1—Short title This Act may be cited as the Education and Children's Services (Asbestos Removal) Amendment Act 2024.

Part 2—Amendment of Education and Children's Services Act 2019 2—Insertion of section 134A After section 134 insert: 134A—Removal of asbestos from Government schools and preschools (1) The Minister must ensure that, by 31 December 2034, all asbestos is removed from the land, buildings and facilities of all Government schools and Government preschools. (2) The Minister must, on or before 31 March in each year during the prescribed period, cause a report to be prepared on the progress that has been made in relation to the removal of asbestos as required under subsection (1). (3) The Minister must cause a copy of the report prepared under subsection (2) to be tabled in both Houses of Parliament within 12 sitting days after its completion. (4) In this section— prescribed period means the period— (a) beginning on the day on which this section commences; and (b) ending on— (i) 31 December 2034; or (ii) the day on which all asbestos is removed from the land, buildings and facilities of all Government schools and Government preschools, whichever occurs first.
