The Parliament of South Australia enacts as follows:
Part 1—Preliminary
1—Short title
This Act may be cited as the Electoral (Prohibition of Canvassing Near Polling Booths) Amendment Act 2024.
Part 2—Amendment of Electoral Act 1985
2—Amendment of section 125—Prohibition of canvassing near polling booths
(1) Section 125—after subsection (1) insert:
(1aa) Without limiting subsection (1), when a polling booth is open for polling, a person must not—
(a) at the polling place for which the polling booth is established; or
(b) in any place within 100 metres of an entrance to the polling booth,
canvass for votes (including by distributing how-to-vote cards), solicit the vote of an elector or induce a person not to vote for a candidate or at the election.
Maximum penalty: $5 000.
