Local Government (Restructuring) Order 1998
I, the Lieutenant-Governor in and over the State of Tasmania and its Dependencies in the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Executive Council and on the recommendation of the Minister for Local Government, make the following order under sections 12 and 268A of the Local Government Act 1993 .

1. Short title This order may be cited as the Local Government (Restructuring) Order 1998 .
2. Commencement (1) Clauses 1 , 2 , 3 and 11 take effect on the day on which the making of this order is notified in the Gazette. (2) The remaining provisions of this order take effect on the day on which copies of certificates of the results of the elections to be held on 25 August 1998 are published in the Gazette under section 304 of the Local Government Act 1993.
3. Interpretation (1) In this order, a reference to a Plan is a reference to a Plan contained in the Central Plan Register. (2) The Acts Interpretation Act 1931 applies to the interpretation of this order as if this order were by-laws.
4. Abolition of municipal areas and electoral districts (1) The following municipal areas are abolished: (a) Break O'Day; (b) Brighton; (c) Burnie; (d) Central Coast; (e) Central Highlands; (f) Clarence; (g) Derwent Valley; (h) Devonport; (i) Dorset; (j) George Town; (k) Glamorgan-Spring Bay; (l) Huon Valley; (m) Kentish; (n) Kingborough; (o) Latrobe; (p) Launceston; (q) Meander Valley; (r) Northern Midlands; (s) Sorell; (t) Southern Midlands; (u) Tasman; (v) Waratah-Wynyard; (w) West Tamar. (2) The electoral districts in the municipal area of Launceston are abolished.
