Local Government (Burnie City Council) Order 2002
I, the Governor in and over the State of Tasmania and its Dependencies in the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Executive Council and on the recommendation of the Minister, make the following order under section 12 of the Local Government Act 1993 .

1. Short title This order may be cited as the Local Government (Burnie City Council) Order 2002 .
2. Commencement (1) Clauses 1 , 3 and 4 and this clause take effect on the day on which the making of this order is notified in the Gazette. (2) Clause 5(1) takes effect on the day on which the certificate of election is issued in respect of the election of councillors for the municipal area of Burnie to be held in October 2002. (3) Clause 5(2) takes effect on the day on which the certificate of election is issued in respect of the election of councillors for the municipal area of Burnie to be held in October 2005.
3. Interpretation The Acts Interpretation Act 1931 applies to the interpretation of this order as if it were by-laws.
4. Number of councillors for Burnie City Council (1) The total number of persons to be elected as councillors in the municipal area of Burnie is – (a) 10 on and after the day on which the certificate of election is issued in respect of the election to be held in October 2002 but before the day on which the certificate of election is issued in respect of the election to be held in October 2005; and (b) 9 on and after the day on which the certificate of election is issued in respect of the election to be held in October 2005. (2) The number of persons referred to in subclause (1) is to be achieved as follows: (a) by reducing the number of persons to be elected as councillors at the election to be held in October 2002 from 6 to 4; (b) by reducing the number of persons to be elected as councillors at the election to be held in October 2005 from 6 to 5.
