AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/RB211/19 Amdt 5 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section. Rolls Royce Turbine Engines - RB211 Series AD/RB211/19 Amdt 6 Combustion Liner 4/2004 Applicability: RB211 engines as detailed in Rolls Royce Alert Service Bulletin (ASB) RB.211-72- AB482 Revision 9 dated 28 July 2003. Requirement: 1. To detect evidence of combustion liner head section distress which could result in a break-out of combustion, carry out an inspection of the combustion liner in accordance with: (a) Rolls Royce ASB RB.211-72-AB482 Revision 9, or (b) As detailed in an inspection procedure approved by CASA in accordance with Civil Aviation Regulation 2A, (4). 2. Incorporate modifications as detailed in Rolls-Royce SB RB211-72-9670 or RB211-72-9764. Incorporation of the modifications referred to in Requirement 2 of this Directive constitutes terminating action for this Directive. Note: CAA UK AD G-2003-0011 refers. Compliance: 1. As detailed in the elected requirement document. 2. At the next shop visit when the 04 module is refurbished or overhauled, but no later than 31 December 2012. This Amendment becomes effective on 15 April 2004. Background: This directive was originally issued to address a report of a combustion break-out which resulted in an under cowl fire penetrating the engine pylon. The directive required a periodic inspection of the combustion liner head section and meterpanel assemblies. This amendment is issued to reduce the inspection interval for RB211-524B engines and also introduces a terminating action. Rolls Royce Turbine Engines - RB211 Series AD/RB211/19 Amdt 6 (continued) Amendment 5 was issued to reflect the latest revision to the manufacturer's inspection procedure document. The revision, in part, adds engines incorporating RB211-72- 7221 standard combustion liner head sections. Amendment 4 was issued in July 1997 and reduced the inspection threshold and added the RB211-524D4 engine. Amendment 5 of the Airworthiness Directive became effective on 7 October 1999. Amendment 4 of this Airworthiness Directive became effective on 17 July 1997. Amendment 3 of this Airworthiness Directive became effective on 5 December 1996. The original issue of this Airworthiness Directive became effective on 9 November 1995.
