Amdt 1
Brackett Engine Air Filters 5/2003
Applicability: Cessna 210 series aircraft incorporating a Brackett Aero Filters Inc. engine air inlet filter Part Number (P/N) BA-2410.
Note 1: Brackett air filters are an approved alternative to the original Cessna air filter. This Directive is only applicable to aircraft that have had the original Cessna air filter replaced by a Brackett air filter.
Requirement: Inspect the engine air filter element for correct installation. If the filter has only one grill screen, install an additional grill screen P/N 2404-00.
Note 2: The BA-2410 filter element was revised in 1993 to have a screen on both faces of the filter.
Note 3: FAA AD 2002-26-03 refers.
Compliance: Effective 15 May 2003; unless previously accomplished; at next access to the engine air filter or next scheduled aircraft periodic inspection, whichever occurs first.
This amendment becomes effective on 15 May 2003.
Background: This Directive was originally issued to require an inspection of Brackett engine air inlet filters to ensure the filter has been installed correctly. The requirement reflects the NTSB investigation of a fatal Cessna T210 accident disclosed the single grill screen had been installed incorrectly allowing the filter element to be ingested. This amendment requires a second screen to be installed on all applicable Brackett air filter installations.
The original issue of this Airworthiness Directive became effective on 11 July 2002.
James Coyne
Delegate of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority 3 April 2003
The above AD is notified in the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette on 23 April 2003.
