AD/IAI-W/18

Horizontal Stabiliser Trim Actuator 3/98
Applicability: Models 1124 and 1124A aircraft, all serial numbers.
Requirement 1. Action in accordance with Israel Aircraft Industries Service Bulletin 1124-27-133.
2. Overhaul and replace the Horizontal Stabiliser Trim Actuator in accordance with Israel Aircraft Industries Service Bulletin 1124-27-136.
Note 1. Replacement of the Trim Actuator in accordance with Requirement 2, constitutes terminating action for the Requirement 1 inspections of this Directive.
Note 2. Israel CAA AD 27-97-09-02 and AD 96-92 refer.
Compliance: 1. Aircraft and actuators:
- which have achieved either 6,000 landings, or 2,000 landings respectively, irrespective of whichever occurred first, within 50 hours time in service after 2 October 1996; or,
- with less than both 6,000 landings and 2,000 landings respectively, at the next inspection for maintenance release issue after 2 October 1996.
- thereafter as per the requirement of Maintenance Manual Chapter 5.
2. Unless already accomplished, before 26 August 1999.
The compliance of Requirement 1 remains unchanged from the initial issue of this directive.
This amendment becomes effective on 26 February 1998.
Background: During an inspection, an operator found one horizontal stabiliser jackscrew sheared, causing the rod end to separate from the jackscrew.
Amendment 1 is issued in response to a new CAAI AD which initiates a program for removal from service of units of expired fatigue life and of unknown history, and replacement by new, life controlled jackscrews.
The original issue of this airworthiness directive became effective on 7 November 1996.
